Welcome to Eastside Veterinary Hospital. For more than a century, we’ve been part of Savannah’s story — first as Case Veterinary Hospital, a stop along the old Thunderbolt streetcar line, and since 1982 under the ownership of
Dr. Marlay. From the start, our mission has been simple: treat every pet like family and every client like a valued neighbor. That’s why we focus on:
-
Clear, open communication you can count on.
-
Calm, comfortable visits that ease stress for pets and people alike.
-
Quality care at fair prices — because good medicine should make sense.
For over 40 years, our promise hasn’t changed: to care for your
pets as if they were our own, and to stand by you every step of the way.
MEET OUR DOCTORS

Dr. Steven Marlay
Practice Owner - DVM
Dr. Steven Marlay’s life has always been about service—first to his country, and then to the animals and families of Savannah. Raised in Southern Maryland, he attended the United States Naval Academy, served in Vietnam,
and later followed his lifelong love of animals to the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. Since founding Eastside Veterinary Hospital, Dr. Marlay has been more than a veterinarian - he’s been a steady hand in moments of worry, a trusted voice in times of uncertainty, and a quiet champion for pets in need. His care is guided by kindness, affordability, and the belief that every animal deserves a chance to thrive. When he’s not at the clinic, you’ll find him sailing, writing poetry, or enjoying time with his wife, four children, seven grandchildren, and two rescue dogs, Ruby and Moses.

Dr. Melissa Becker
DVM - MPH
Dr. Melissa Becker knows Eastside from the ground up. She joined the team in 2007 as a veterinary assistant, learning alongside Dr. Marlay while earning her B.S. in Biology and a Master of Public Health from Armstrong Atlantic State University. She went on to complete veterinary training at St. George’s University School of Veterinary Medicine and the University of Georgia—then came home to Eastside in 2019 and to Savannah for good. Clinically, Dr. Becker focuses on internal medicine, dermatology, dentistry, and soft tissue surgery. Families appreciate her calm, thorough approach and the way she makes complex care feel clear, compassionate, and doable. Outside the clinic, you’ll often find her enjoying outdoor activities and spending time with her husband, Dave; her cats, Thunderbear and Squishy; and her dogs, Ada, Allie, and Ken Griffey.
